Cutting speed / peripheral speed

  • Cutting speed / peripheral speed

The cutting or peripheral speed describes the speed of the grinding wheel at its surface and is limited by the machine and the wheel specification. It has a significant influence on the grinding process, particularly on the number of abrasive grains simultaneously engaged, the effective wheel hardness, the surface quality, the contact time between grain and workpiece, the chip thickness, as well as the generated heat and the required power.
