Dressing of superabrasive grinding wheels

  • Dressing of superabrasive grinding wheels

When dressing CBN grinding wheels, the diamond is subjected to significantly higher loads than with conventional grinding wheels, as CBN has a very high hardness. As a result, the dresser wears more quickly, which is why deliberately “wearing” tools that self-sharpen are often used.

Typical designs include narrow, segmented layers or multi-layer or hybrid constructions that better distribute wear. The goal is to ensure a stable and reproducible process despite material removal from the dressing tool.
