Hardness testing of vitrified-bond grinding wheels

  • Hardness testing of vitrified-bond grinding wheels

In the Zeiss Mackensen method, aluminum oxide (corundum) is blasted onto the grinding wheel using compressed air until a measurable indentation is formed. Its diameter and depth are then assigned to a hardness grade letter based on an internal scale.
In the Rockwell method, a diamond indenter is pressed into the wheel with a defined force, and the measured penetration depth serves as the basis for hardness classification.
