Key parameters of the grinding process

  • Key parameters of the grinding process

Grinding processes are characterized by system variables, direct control variables, and derived control variables. System variables (e.g., machine, tool, cooling) are predefined, while direct control variables such as feed rate or depth of cut are actively set. From these, derived variables such as material removal rate or contact conditions arise, which significantly influence both the process and the result.

Process variables describe what actually occurs in the grinding contact—e.g., forces, temperatures, vibrations, or machining time.
These directly affect the result variables, i.e., component quality and economic efficiency, such as surface quality, dimensional accuracy, wear, or costs.
