The machining of an inner diameter on a cutting tool is a demanding task, especially when every conceivable cutting edge geometry and every version of clearance angle design must be realized. A new approach is applied here. The workpiece is clamped vertically instead of horizontally. Some specifically complex boring bars can only be ground efficiently with this method. Vertical clamping significantly improves accessibility during the grinding process. The clamping direction can be reversed depending on the cutting edge geometry that is required.
