Do beautiful machines grind better?

A little more than a year ago, our flagship machine, the Multigrind® CB, received the prestigious Red Dot Design Award for exemplary industrial design. An achievement that was met with great enthusiasm throughout our company. It demonstrated that the combination of performance and aesthetics is not only appreciated by automotive designers such as Pininfarina, but also by Swabian mechanical engineers in Trossingen. And, by the way, by customers who already have a Multigrind® CB operating in their production facilities.

Of course, users who grind highly complex knee implants on a Multigrind® CB are primarily impressed by the outstanding grinding results. They also value technical features such as the grinding wheel changer, which can hold up to 17 grinding wheels and completes a wheel change in a maximum of twelve seconds. But what we hear time and again is that the Multigrind® CB also looks good on the shop floor.

And let us be honest. We all prefer working with tools that are visually appealing, provided the performance is right. Speaking of appearance, did you know that more attractive people often earn higher salaries? No? Neither did I. All the more interesting is an article by Hermann Unterstöger published in the Süddeutsche Zeitung on June 22, 2009. In summary, it suggests that people who are considered attractive may develop greater self confidence. According to a study published in the Journal of Applied Psychology, this can make work feel less demanding. And strong performance is, from time to time, rewarded with a pleasant pay rise.

Be that as it may, one thing is certain. An appealing design does not stand in the way of excellent grinding results, provided the machine is a Multigrind® CB. Our customers do not learn this from studies, but experience it every time they grind with their Multigrind® CB. How important is the design of a grinding machine to you?
